Have you ever experienced the transformative power of meaningful activities? The team at New Opportunities Worcestershire (NOW) certainly has, and their dedication to enhancing the lives of adults in Worcestershire shines through in every endeavor. As a pivotal part of Vocational Services within the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Health and Care NHS Trust, NOW is not just a team; they are architects of positive change and champions of recovery.

WHO ARE NOW?

New Opportunities Worcestershire comprises a dynamic group of Technical Instructors and Peer Support Workers, serving as a cornerstone within the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Wellbeing and Recovery College for those who have been using secondary care mental health services. This passionate team works tirelessly to bring a wealth of opportunities to individuals facing mental health challenges.

WHAT SETS THEM APART?

NOW goes beyond conventional approaches, focusing on individuals who have yet to find “meaningful occupations” due to isolation, low self-esteem, and anxiety. They craft an environment where recovery is not just a journey but a rediscovery of joy, purpose, and community.

“Recovery is about building a meaningful and satisfying life, as defined by the person themselves, whether or not there are ongoing symptoms or problems.”

WHAT DO THEY DO?

NOW facilitates small, supportive groups, offering a diverse range of FREE practical activities to adults (18+) supported by a Neighbourhood Mental Health Team. By identifying activities aligned with the individual’s recovery goals, NOW becomes a beacon of support, instilling confidence and sparking the courage to explore activities outside traditional mental health services.

HOW DO THEY DO IT?

The magic lies in their approach. NOW offers a variety of activities facilitated by both experts in training and experts with firsthand experience. Collaborating closely with clients, a recovery-focused pathway is crafted, working in tandem with VCSE, Reablement, and Employment Services when needed. This collaborative effort empowers individuals to transition into mainstream activities independently or with ongoing support.

WHERE DO THEY WORK THEIR MAGIC?

NOW’s influence spans across Worcestershire, with activities hosted at various locations, including Worcester (The Hive, The Building Block), Kidderminster (The Carpet Museum, KDTY), Bromsgrove (Bromsgrove Library, Newhaven Garden), Redditch (The Old Needleworks, The Redicentre), Evesham (Waterside at Evesham Hospital), and Malvern (Link Nurseries, The Cube).

WHO CAN BENEFIT?

The NOW experience is tailored for adults (18+) in Worcestershire supported by a Neighbourhood Mental Health Team. If you find yourself craving meaningful activity, struggling with limited social support networks, or seeking a boost in routine and motivation, NOW is here to help.

IN CONCLUSION

New Opportunities Worcestershire is not just a service; it’s a catalyst for positive change. Their commitment to fostering meaningful lives is evident in every workshop, every activity, and every success story. As they continue to sow the seeds of recovery, the partnership with the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Wellbeing and Recovery College flourishes, creating a landscape of hope, support, and endless possibilities. Together, they prove that recovery is not just a destination; it’s a journey they embark on hand in hand with those they serve.
