Course outline:
· This course will be delivered face-to-face by accredited MHFA England Instructors
· It is structured across four flexible sessions over 2 days (Wednesday 24th April and Wed 1st May – both days 9 – 5pm)
· Learning takes place through a mix of instructor led training, group discussions, individual and group activities.
· Each session builds on the previous, enabling the learner to gain confidence in supporting others with a Mental Health First Aid action plan.
· We limit numbers to 16 people per course so that instructors can keep people safe and supported while they learn.
· We strive for all our learning content to be as accessible and inclusive as possible.

This interactive, internationally recognised course will give you the skills and confidence to become a Mental Health First Aider® including:
As a MHFAider® you will be able to:
· Recognise those that may be experiencing poor mental health and provide them with first-level support and early intervention
· Encourage a person to identify and access sources of professional help and other supports
· Practice active listening and empathy
· Have a conversation with improved mental health literacy around language and stigma
· Discuss the MHFAider® role in depth, including boundaries and confidentiality
· Practice self-care
· Know how to use the MHFAider Support App®
· Know how to access a dedicated text service provided by Shout and ongoing learning opportunities with MHFA England
Everyone who completes the course gets:
· A hard copy workbook to support their learning throughout the course
· A digital manual to refer to whenever they need it after completing the course
· A wallet-sized reference card with the Mental Health First Aid action plan
· A digital MHFAider® certificate
· Access to the MHFAider Support App® for three years
· Access to ongoing learning opportunities, resources, and exclusive events
· The opportunity to be part of the largest MHFAider® community in England
(Please be aware that lunch is not provided)
Course eligibility
This is open to you if you are over the age of 18 and live or work in Herefordshire or Worcestershire and keen to learn how to better able to reassure and support someone who is going through a tough time; or if you are working as a volunteer or in a paid role where you are more likely to come across people needing help to find the right source of support for their mental health. (Please note this course is not open to private employers)
This course is delivered through the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Wellbeing and Recovery College, is fully subsidised by NHS Charities Together and FREE to attend. Mental Health First Aid England values this course at £325+VAT per person.
*both days must be attended to complete the course.
