Our Courses and Workshops

All courses are run by staff from the partnership organisations and are developed and delivered by professionals, many of whom will have lived experience of mental or physical illness, and/or experience of supporting someone with a mental or physical illness

Some courses may have been co-produced with experts by experience and some courses may have experts by experience co-facilitating the training.

    Details

    Course Overview: An 8 week activity programme with an emphasis on fun and games rather than a conventional workout. Promoting low levels of movement, activity, flexibility and co-ordination. 

    Course Duration: 8 weekly sessions lasting 1.5hrs -Thursday afternoon 

    Course Benefits: Increased confidence, co-ordination, balance, flexibility, energy levels, motivation, teamwork, concentration and social skills.

    Course Equipment: All equipment will be provided

    Course Eligibility:  New Opportunities Worcestershire courses/activities are to help Worcestershire adults (18+) in their recovery from severe mental ill health, through engagement in meaningful roles and activities. NOW is open to Worcestershire adults receiving services from the Neighbourhood Mental Health Teams who are not yet ready to access mainstream activities due to isolation, and low self-esteem. Helping them to gain confidence, reduce isolation and increase concentration to enable them to move into mainstream activities, or progress into other parts of the pathway. Other criteria may apply.

  2. Adult Mental Health First Aider Herefordshire

    Details

    Course outline:

    • Two day face-to-face course delivered across four manageable sessions
    • Learning takes place through a mix of presentations, group discussions and workshop activities
    • Each session is built around a Mental Health First Aid action plan
    • We limit numbers to 12 people per course so that the instructor can keep people safe and supported while they learn

    Course duration:  2 full days 23rd and 30th November 9am-5pm (both days must be attended)

    Course benefits:

    This interactive, internationally recognised course will give you the skills and confidence to become a Mental Health First Aider  including:

    • an understanding of what mental health is and the range of things that can affect our wellbeing
    • a knowledge of the most common mental health conditions
    • the practical skills to spot the triggers, signs and symptoms of a range of mental health problems
    • the confidence to step in, reassure and support a person in distress using the Mental Health First Aid  action plan
    • how to practice listening without judgement and with empathy
    • how to help someone by guiding them to further support and the knowledge of a range of  local and national resources
    • An understanding of how to keep yourself safe whilst providing Mental Health First Aid and how to look after your own wellbeing.

    Course equipment:

    Everyone who completes the course gets:

    • A certificate of attendance to say you are a Mental Health First Aider
    • A manual to refer to whenever you need it
    • A quick reference card for the Mental Health First Aid action plan
    • A workbook including a helpful toolkit to support your own mental health

    You will need to bring a pen and spare notepaper.

    (Please be aware that lunch is not provided)

    Course eligibility 

    This is for you if you are over the age of 18, based in Herefordshire and  keen to learn how to better able to reassure and support someone who is going through a tough time; or if you are working as a volunteer or in a paid role where you are more likely to come across people needing help to find the right source of support for their mental health. Priority is given to those connected to Talk Community Hubs
